Marrakech Biennale – 6th edition, March 2016
The Marrakech Biennale is a festival that seeks to build bridges between cultures by means of the arts. We inspire outstanding artists worldwide to create works worthy of Marrakech’s magical environment.
The festival celebrates creativity in a city that has been the subject of artistic exploration for centuries now; a gathering of art enthusiasts who organise thought-provoking lectures, interactive events and international-class exhibitions.
It was founded in 2004, so the 5th edition is not only celebrating the arts, but the event’s 10th birthday as well.
The Marrakech Biennale’s main principles:
Promoting artistic excellence and intellectual rigour
Being sensitive to the local context
Engaging with all forms of artistic expression
Prioritising support to the local economy
Supplying an equitable platform for all independent artists, no matter what their country of origin
Supporting participants without taking account of origin or gender
Supplying a collaborative platform for local, regional and international debate
Keeping its status as an association, remaining independent of State or commercial interests
