Excursion in Essaouira - 1 day
Already well known in antiquity to have provided to Rome the famous Caesars, this old Phoenician
trading post named Mogador by Portuguese, is a citadel with a rich history. The medina
is home to many small arts and crafts businesses, notably cabinet making and ‘thuya’ woodcarving
(using roots of the Tetraclinis tree), both of which have been practised in Essaouira for
centuries. It is also the home of various artists and intellectuals
Departure from Marrakesh at 8.30 am, we need 2.30 hours to reach Essaouira.
Once arrived at Essaouira, you will have the all day to visit the city: souk, beach, ramparts etc.
This will be a good opportunity to have lunch in one of the very pleasant local restaurants offering
fresh fish and seafood.
Return to Marrakesh, around 6.00 pm.
